about
feeling - function - form

Brently Reid, from Aotearoa New Zealand, now lives and works (some play!) on Bundjalung country, Northern Rivers, NSW.

Having worked in New Zealand, the UK and Australia, Brent formed EcoSphereDesign in Sydney in 2003 to create site connected, climate responsive, joyful homes with an environmental conscience.
In 2011, to raise a family in the northern rivers, "the ecosphere" expanded to also serve Byron and surrounding shires.
Brent is an accredited full member of the Building Designers Association of Australia.
Our diversity of experience and passion for design has been rewarded through industry recognition whereby we have
received 18 awards and 4 commendations. Please see our recognition page for awards information.
We are advocates for a sustainable future.
To support the growth of the ecosphere, in 2005 Brent trained and qualified as a Sustainability Assessor with ABSA, the Association of Building Sustainability Assessors (ABSA). For four years, Brent provided certified thermal modelling and sustainability assessments for his own projects and those of other designers and architects.
The process of really testing the thermal performance for over 100 dwellings really cemented the practical/theoretical/technological interplay that a well-informed sustainable design requires.
In 2012 Brent was selected by the Alternative Technology Association (ATA) as 1 of 15 to represent the sustainable design
community for their inaugural “Speed Date a Sustainable Designer” event. We continued with these events for 5 years as we watched them grow into a country-wide success.
The world of sustainability and what that means conceptually and technologically is evolving all the time. Brent has completed multiple courses in the field with a view to staying ahead of the curve, including the BDAA Sustainability Masterclass run by gurus of the sustainability world.
Brent and EcoSphereDesign have experience across many typologies, from single residential to apartments, heritage, commercial, retail, industrial , landscaping, pools, furniture, hospitality and wellness…oh, and can we get fluffy for a second…good design puts wellness into everything!
From concepts, to design development, approvals documentation to detailing, tendering to completion, we can support you all the way.
Brent has a love for architecture and has travelled the world to view (feel?) the work of many masters. He has a passion for quality design and the realisation of an optimised solution. That ‘blue sky’ moment, where the design locks into place, where all the dots connect, is present, waiting to be discovered, in all design challenges, big or small.
In creating design that is attuned to our environment we need to understand what ‘environment’ is. The EcoSphereDesign ethos is that environment refers to more than climate change and rainwater tanks. Environment is about our inner-being and, our inter-connectedness with all things. From this understanding follows the philosophy that, the spaces we live in should hold us, support us, and in turns, excite us and calm us. The spaces we live in should nurture our hearts, feed our dreams, and encourage us towards our aspirations.
In response to her transformed, light filled home, Lucinda M. said “I love it! Every morning when I wake, I feel like I’m on holiday”.
Breathe in, breathe out. Aaaaaah. That is the EcoSphereDesign philosophy in action!
Curious and Creative. Playful yet Smart. Uplifting. Warm-hearted. And a touch rebellious.
We love what we do.
We’d love to hear about your project.
